Sharon Ross - Independent Prevent Consultant/Trainer

Sharon completed a 30 year policing career with Northumbria Police in April 2017.

Her service too started with 24/7 uniformed duties and in 1993 she was appointed as a detective constable where she investigated serious crime cases, including murders, kidnappings, fraud, robbery, high risk missing persons, serious sexual offences and managing the risk of very high risk convicted sex offenders..

In 2010 she transferred into Special Branch and joined the Prevent team, where she remained for the final 6 years of her service.  This involved raising awareness of the increasing risk to vulnerable people from radicalisation by delivering training to thousands of front-line Safeguarding Staff.  From 2015 she was instrumental in coordinating the introduction of the then new Prevent Duty throughout the region and in addition she continued to perform the role of force Channel Police Practitioner where she was key to driving the introduction of Channel Panels across the north east's six local authorities and supporting them throughout.  Sharon worked directly with vulnerable individuals who were referred into Prevent as a concern and with others played a key role in putting support strategies in place.

In addition to the numerous training courses Sharon attended during her Policing career, she also has NCFE qualifications in Mental Health Awareness (levels 1 & 2)
