Peter Thompson

I retired after completing 28 years service with Northumbria Police in August 2015, with a wealth of experience in many aspects of policing.

During my career, I has served in 24/7 uniformed Policing, Custody Suite Operations, Force Inspectorate, Vehicle Crime, Drugs Intervention Programme, Prolific and Priority Offenders Unit.

In 2008, I was involved in the development and delivery of the Government's Prevent Strategy, delivering Prevent Awareness training to thousands of front line staff in the north east region.

Representing the Force on local CONTEST boards and similar strategic groups where I gained extensive experience with partnership engagement and multi-agency panels to safeguard and manage risk around individuals which provided me with a thorough understanding of the workings of the Prevent Strategy and the now, Prevent Duty.

I have previously gained a Certificate in Terrorism studies from St Andrews University, NCFE qualifications in Mental Health Awareness (Levels 1 & 2) and Pro-Qual Certificate in Teaching, Training and Assessment (Level 3).
