Sharon completed a 30 year policing career with Northumbria Police in April 2017.
Her service too started with 24/7 uniformed duties and in 1993 she was appointed as a detective constable where she investigated serious crime cases, including murders, kidnappings, fraud, robbery, high risk missing persons, serious sexual offences and managing the risk of convicted sex offenders.
In 2010 she transferred her safeguarding experience and skills to the department responsible for the Force delivery of the Prevent Strategy, with a responsibility to deliver Prevent awareness sessions to statutory front-line services across the six local authority areas. She worked together with statutory partners to safeguard and support individuals deemed vulnerable to radicalisation and referred into the Channel programme. The introduction of the Prevent Duty in 2015 saw Sharon coordinate the implementation of this statutory requirement across key sectors, such as local authorities, health, police and education, offering them support and guidance around this sometimes considered complex area of safeguarding, until her retirement in 2017.
In addition to the numerous training courses Sharon attended during her Policing career, she has additional NCFE qualifications in Mental Health Awareness (levels 1 & 2) and ProQual Certificate in Teaching, Training and Assessment (Level 3).
